Mapping the Unseen: Movement as Another Way of Seeing

Sunday, August 23

Corazón del Pueblo, in collaboration with LAND and Presqu’ile, is launching a new wellness series at The Bunker.

Inspired by the artwork and landscape that shape this exhibition, this all-levels workshop explores how attention transforms the way we experience art, space, and ourselves. Through guided movement, walking explorations, and a simple movement phrase, participants will discover how body, observation, and environment inform one another.

No dance experience is necessary, only curiosity and a willingness to notice, explore, and connect. We’ll conclude with a shared conversation about how movement can deepen the way we see and experience the world around us.

Tennis shoes that are comfortable for movement are recommended.

About Sydney Sorenson

Sydney Sorenson is a dancer, choreographer, educator, and researcher whose work explores the intersection of movement, perception, and embodied awareness. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, she earned a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and an MFA from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She has performed with L.A. Contemporary Dance Company, NOW-ID, Kidd Pivot, and artists including Helene Fischer, Grimes, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Sydney is currently an Associate Professor of Dance and Dance Coordinator at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Her current research investigates how attention, environment, and movement shape the way we experience ourselves and the world around us, inspiring community workshops that invite participants to engage with movement as a way of seeing, creating, and connecting.

About the Exhibition

along the high embankments by Cole Sternberg is on view at The Bunker through September 20, Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 5 pm. The installation was made in direct collaboration with the elements of this estate — canvases dragged through the Pacific, dragged through the soil, and raised from the highest point on the property. Free and open to the public.

About Presqu’ile x LAND

Presqu’ile Winery has partnered with Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) to bring curated contemporary art to Santa Maria Valley. LAND is a nationally recognized nonprofit that presents world-class art outside traditional gallery settings — in landscapes, public spaces, and communities. This is their first presence in Santa Barbara County. The collaboration is long-term, and The Bunker serves as its inaugural home.
